Since I'm living at Fordham's Lincoln Center campus, the NYC premiere was just a hop and skip away from my apartment!
Even though I was so close, I actually arrived a little bit late because I went with my lovely flatmate. People started lining up six days prior just to get in the area right next to the red carpet!
First, we tried scoping out the area around the back, then we walked through to the front. We went to stand next to a fenced off area to the side of the red carpet, right by the curb. A security guy said we couldn't stand next to the fenced off area so we asked if we could go inside. Lo and behold! He actually let us in!
We arrived just as Matt Lewis signed autographs across the street from Lincoln Center. Shortly after, we saw Tom Felton! I never expected I would have been anywhere close enough to get any autographs, so I just took lots of pictures! None of the rest of the cast walked around as much as these two guys, but we did spot Danielle Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and special guests Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, and their daughter.
All in all, it was a super fun and successful time checking out the premiere! I was pumped to see the movie the following Thursday night!
Alice and I had gotten a fantastic deal for the midnight showing tickets for only $6.50 each! (LivingSocial coupon + AMC stubs rewards card, ftw~!)
Fast-Forward to Thursday, July 14 - Going to see Harry Potter at 12:05 am
After finishing work/class respectively, we decided to watch the first part of the Deathly Hallows. Once we finished, we set off to the theatre, but not before Alice nagged me to dress up for the showing! I'm glad she did! I got a few comments on my somewhat gothic/punk ensemble~
We arrived at the theatre about an 1 1/2-2 hours early, and since we went to the 12:05 showing and not the actual midnight-midnight one, there was hardly a line to be seen! To our surprise, however, our tickets were magically upgraded to 3D! (or "D3" as the ticket said xP) The coupon we used wasn't actually valid for 3D showings so we were practically in disbelief! Neither of us really felt compelled to see the movie in 3D, but it was awesome anyway XD
Without giving any spoilers, I'll just say that this movie was FANTASTIC! Some proper changes were made to suit the storytelling medium. Although there were some silly, non-essential changes as well. Overall, it was a fantastic end for a long, magical adventure.
